To the Times:You may recall, Friday, Dec. It happened during the evening rush hour and almost everyone on the road was in slippery gridlock.
By the time I arrived, there were many, many first responders at Dunwoody with fire trucks, police cars and ambulances from Newtown Square, Broomall, Rose Tree Fire Companies, among others. In addition to the first responders, more than 30 Dunwoody employees, many of whom had also just gotten home in the snow, turned around and came back to work to help if help was needed.
Even our grounds crew who had been plowing and shoveling snow for hours helped escort residents from the affected areas to the main center. Our nurses met with the evacuated residents and checked their vital s while the fire company made sure that the country houses adjacent to the incident were smoke free and safe for re-occupancy. At the end of the evening all but two residents returned to their homes.
Those two were provided guest apartments where they have stayed until they could return home as well. I cannot say thank you enough for the incredible work that the fire companies and the first responders did, not only in putting out the fire but more importantly making sure our residents were safe.
They were patient, kind, helpful, efficient and professional. The same goes for the many Dunwoody Village employees who were on duty at the time and those that came in after working all week to make sure our residents were safe.
They all rallied around the affected residents to let them know they are well cared for. And also thank you to the affected residents who were brave, calm and appreciative for all those who showed up to help.
Please remember the fire company when they do their mailing for contributions. They are mostly volunteers and you will be so glad they are there if you ever need them. Meanwhile, the United States is reeling from a year filled with hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, torrential rain, flooding, mudslides, and droughts of unprecedented confluence and severity.
